Privacy policy
Kite (the browser extension and the Kite Helper app for the Mac). Last updated 6 November 2026.
The short version
Kite has no account and no server. It doesn’t collect, sell or send anywhere what you browse. Everything Kite keeps stays in your browser and, with Kite Helper, on your Mac.
What Kite keeps, and where
- Your spaces, folders, pinned tabs’ home pages, archived tabs, notes, Boosts and settings are stored by the extension in your browser’s own storage.
- Some settings are kept in your browser’s synced storage. If you have turned on sync in your browser, the browser maker (Google, for Chrome) syncs them between your devices, as it does for your other extension settings. Kite itself never sees them leave your browser.
- Kite Helper keeps the order of your spaces, your link rules and, if you turn on settings sync, a copy of your Kite settings in its preferences on your Mac. It talks only to Kite in your browsers, through a local connection on your Mac; it has no network access of its own.
Why Kite asks for its permissions
- Read and change data on all websites: to open links in Peek, keep pinned and folder tabs in place, remove tracking parameters from links, apply your Boosts and Zap, and show your notes.
- Tabs, tab groups, windows, bookmarks, history, reading list: to build spaces and folders, and to let the Kite Bar find your open tabs, bookmarks and history. This is read on your device and never sent anywhere.
- Browsing data: only when you ask Kite to clear a site’s data.
- Native messaging (optional, asked for when you connect Kite Helper): to talk to Kite Helper on your Mac.
Network requests
Kite makes no requests to servers of its own. To draw a site’s icon it may load that icon from the site itself, as your browser does in its tab strip.
Limited use
The use of information Kite gets from your browser follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Kite uses that information only to provide its features to you, does not transfer it to anyone, and does not use it for advertising or to decide credit-worthiness or lending.
Deleting your data
Removing the extension removes everything it stored in that browser. Quitting and deleting Kite Helper, and its preferences file in your Library, removes what it kept.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date.
